Passion Pitch Poetry has organised Calgary poetry events since 2007
ABOUT
At the start...
Passion Pitch Poetry was started by Kirk Ramdath in November 2007 as a monthly open mic and feature
series that allowed poets of all levels and
styles to share the stage with an outstanding featured performer.
The relaxed and intimate teahouse atmosphere allowed for up close enjoyment of performances and also
excellent o
pportunities for meeting a diverse range of emerging Calgary artists.

The first show on the third Wednesday of November 2007 at Oolong Teahouse in Kensington featured
Calgary's
Moe Clark following an excellent assortment of poets on the open mic.  The Oolong series ran
monthly until the June 2008 show which featured Vancouver's
Radar.

Passion Pitch is an offshoot of
Eleventh Transmission, Calgary's arts, culture, media, and activism
magazine.  Passion Pitch started as an attempt to create a physical space for the magazine within the
Calgary community.  Now the focus is on developing Passion Pitch into a poetry creating entity. During the
2008 "summer break," Passion Pitch organized three consecutive Poetry in the Park events at Riley Park
and shows with Sheri-D Wilson and Shane Koyczan.  Passion Pitch relaunched its open mic series at
Weeds Cafe (1903 20 Avenue NW, Calgary). on October 15, 2008.

Now...
Passion Pitch's first priority is creating spaces for poetry to grow within the Calgary community.  Our
monthly open mic reading series c
ontinues to grow in the search of poetic excellence.  This event features
a different poet each month.  Featured poets will be drawn from every nook and cranny of the Calgary
poetry community with the goal of bringing together diverse Calgary poets in an intimate space to share
and discuss the poetic craft as well as some awesome poetry.
Some featured poets will be guests from
out of town.

In addition to the monthly open mic, Passion Pitch looks for stimulating and unique ways to bring poetry to
an audience.  We have done a panty-themed show and collaborated with visual and performance artists
for a show at the Alberta College of Art and Design.  We will continue to present poetry to Calgary
audiences in unique and interesting ways.
